History, politics and entertainment – TVP expansion continues

Documentaries about current issues, drama series and historical feature films – these are the genres that have been most popular among TVP international partners recently.

Poland’s neighbouring countries purchased productions inspired by the current geopolitical situation. Viewers from Latvia will have the opportunity to watch a documentary ‘Crazy Love. Putin and the Russians’ directed by Barbara Włodarczyk. The documentary presents the phenomenon of Vladimir Putin who, according to polls conducted by the end of 2014, is supported by 86% of Russians. The author of the documentary is trying to investigate this political and social phenomenon by visiting various places, from Moscow to Crimea, and talking to all sorts of people who express their opinions on Putin and contemporary Russia. Ukrainian TV station 1+1 has selected entertaining production showing the transformations in Central and Eastern Europe from different, comedy drama angle. ‘Girls From Ukraine’ directed by Wojciech Adamczyk is an incredibly popular in Poland series that shows fate of girls from Lviv who moved to Warsaw in an attempt to find jobs and better lives. Each girl starts her career in Poland by working below their qualification or experience, however, soon their lives are about to change dramatically. The shares of the final episode of this successful series accounted for 25 per cent. The fact that the series about Ukrainian girls in Poland was enthusiastically received by Ukrainian station is yet another proof of its authenticity and high quality. Chinese viewers, in turn, will have the opportunity to watch well-known, awarded features films about WWII and its consequences. ‘Katyń’ directed by Andrzej Wajda will be broadcast by CCTV 6 while ‘Joanna’ directed by Feliks Falk - by Liaoning TV. CCTV will broadcasts yet another Polish film. ‘Copernicus’ Star’, directed by Andrzej Orzechowski and Zdzisław Kudła, is an animated story for children, teenagers and adults, that both entertains and teaches about Nicolaus Copernicus, one of the greatest astronomers in the world. He is said to have moved the Earth and stopped the Sun. Packed with adventures, the story incorporates both authentic facts from history as well as fictional events, making it a great entertainment for everybody.
