The action of the film is set in December of 1981, when the then president of Poland, Wojciech Jaruzelski, imposes martial law in the country.  Marianna, a devout Catholic, decides to take advantage of the family celebration of the baptism of her youngest grandchild, and reconcile her children who have been at odds for years. Her neat plan is however at risk due to General Jaruzelski’s decision. Determined to reconcile her children at all costs, Marianna decides to hide from them the truth about the situation in the country. This seemingly innocuous lie triggers an avalanche of unexpected events that are difficult to stop.
