It is the story of Poland’s first Olympic gold medallist Halina Konopacka, who was not only an outstanding sportswoman, a symbol of pre-war women’s sport (on 31 July 1928 she won the first Olympic medal for Poland at the Olympic Games in Amsterdam), but also a poet, who was friends with the most outstanding writers of the interwar period. Her columns written for women’s magazines, in which she promoted physical culture among women, contributed significantly to popularising sport among young girls in reborn Poland. Her beauty, elegance and versatility made her an extremely popular and recognizable person.
