This
documentary shows dramatic events that took place in Poland and their outcome
which was so significant that it inspired an American screenwriter to share the
story with the rest of the world. It is a story of the Blessed Father Jerzy
Popiełuszko who was a courageous chaplain of the Solidarity movement in Poland
in the early 1980s. His strong faith, conviction and courage mobilized the
nation to stand against the communist regime. He paid the highest price for
fighting for freedom and human rights as he was murdered in 1984 by the
communist government. Later his heroism and devotion were appreciated by the
whole nation. He was beatified on June 6, 2010 in Warsaw and is expected to be
canonized. The documentary gives an insight into Popiełuszko’s life and work as
it contains a lot of archive footage as well as interviews with people who had
the opportunity to meet him personally. It is also a kind of a noble fairytale
that could be told by parents to children. It is a story about truth, freedom
and courage. The documentary is narrated by Martin Sheen.
