The series shows the Jagiellonian dynasty from the perspective of the period’s cuisine. The sophisticated and extraordinary dishes don’t fit the preconceived ideas of medieval feasts. The recipes are full of fruit, vegetables, soups and pastries. There are clear influences from Hungary, Turkey, the Middle East and Eastern Borderlands of Poland. The food draws a map of Polish history, international trade, wars and conquests, and diplomatic negotiations.

The show’s host recreates the old dishes given the audience a chance to make them at home. The original recipes serve as an inspiration, while the actual food is “modernized” to current standards and preferences. While cooking, the audience will also get a glimpse of Polish history between the XIV and XVII centuries.
